Lagging behind my blog posts is an understatement. I started this blog when I was first without a job and wanted to channel my creative juices in a way that keeps me focused on a weekly goal. So now that I have a job and happy with it, this blog has taken a backseat. I honestly didn't know if anyone was still reading this, but my friend Ashleigh was and asked about the recent lack of postings. On top of that, I really do miss this creative side project of mine. So, I'm going to start blogging again. New York Fashion Week Fall 2010 - Academy of Art

New York Fashion Week is upon us again at Bryant Park. It's with bittersweet emotions that the last season of New York Fashion Week began at the legendary Bryant Park on February 11. The next NY Fashion Week will be moved to Lincoln Center.

I was lucky enough to go to the shows on both Friday and Saturday, courtesy of my fashionable friend Miko Laube. I covered 7 shows in 2 days, quite a feat, I must say. My favorite so far was the Academy of Art University show. The creativity was overflowing and the energy contagious. It was also my first time backstage. It was such a rush to see the prep work and the models in real life. The show debuts the collections of some of the university's graduates. I love especially three designers: Marina Solomatnikova, for her creatively constructed suede pieces; Hyo Sun (Nicky) An, for her beautiful drapey and stringy jersey jacket and tunic and Steven Oo, for his cozy and fashion-forward, but completely wearable chunky knitwear.

Vintage Galore

The Manhattan Vintage Show happens three times a year. There's so much vintage it can be quite overwhelming. There's no dearth of vintage from every decade. The prices err on the expensive side...but I know, I'm spoiled by the great selection at Shareen Vintage, where the pieces are amazing and almost everything is under $100. I scoured the different vintage shops and took photos of some of my favorites. I ended up getting a Chloé faux fur jacket, which was supposed to be designed by Stella McCartney when she was still designing for Chloé. The other item I bought was a fur collar that looks pretty luxe.

My FIT project - Urban Fairies

I have no idea where I've placed the charger for my camera and so I couldn't take any photos since my last posting. Not sure anymore if I'll post anything regularly. I'll probably post something for Fashion Week in February. Otherwise, I was finally able to do a test shoot, the results of which will be presented at my FIT class next week. For once I was not styling myself, which I prefer. The results of this shoot are beautiful. Of course I couldn't have pulled it off without my expert make up artist and hair stylist, Mary Duffoo, amazing models and muse, Melissa and Nicole Hidalgo, and the talented Evan Brockett, the photographer. The shoot took place at Central Park. It was a lot of fun and the weather cooperated. I'm happy with the overall results. Click on the photos to see larger images. Enjoy!

I know, it's been a while. I was away in Hong Kong and Japan over the holidays, which was amazingly fun: hung out with my family, reconnected with friends and completely ate my heart out and probably gained a few pounds along the way, but that's what holidays are for, right?

Surprisingly shopping wasn't a major activity while I was in Tokyo and Hong Kong, but I did purchase two items that are my current favorites: Chloé heels and Northland chunky knit sweater. Now I'm back in my Empire State of Mind: New York, I love you, even though you're freezing my tush off!

It's a personal quest of mine to find the perfect stripy top and dress. At this point I have amassed a few, but I will one day find the perfect stripy tee that was spotted on Audrey Tatou in Coco Avant Chanel. All her outfits in the movie are so devastatingly chic, however my favorite is still the sailor-inspired navy and white striped top.

Outside of her role as Coco Chanel, Audrey Tatou's daily outfits are just as mesmerizing. One of these days I need to do a post on my favorites out of all her chic outfits.

It's both a blessing and a curse to live in NYC. It's the best place to shop with all the sample sales that happen almost every week, but at the same time they can do some serious damage to one's bank account. My bank account took a beating this weekend when I went to the annual Lucky Shops. It's my annual shopping mecca. This must be at least the 3rd time I've been to Lucky Shops. The only downside is that there's no re-entry, so once you're in there you can't sneak out for a snack. I survived the day with complimentary coffee, coke zero, chips and gelato. Otherwise, it's a fashionista's paradise: designers featured in Lucky gathered in one place selling their products at deeply discounted prices. And so the damage was done, one furry jacket and three pairs of shoes later.

I took a one-week break from blogging and definitely missed it. I have been cleaning out my closet and hosting a Shop My Closet event, which has been somewhat successful. Planning to spend the money from the event to take a class at FIT...that's what I call reinvestment!

The Circle Line is right outside my window, yet I never thought of going on it. It's mostly for tourists but could be fun to travel around Manhattan on a ferry to see the sights. The Circle Line inspired me to pull out the circular prints in my closet, changing each look with accessories.

Black and white is one of my favorite color combination. It's sharp and clean and a classic that really stands out. After watching the movie "Changeling" last night, I decided to inject a dose of 20's glam into the black and white theme. The story of "Changeling" is a sad but inspiring one. Angelina Jolie is of course amazing in it (she got a Oscar nomination for her role), and so is her wardrobe. Her movie wardrobe is not by any means glam, but the way the clothing drapes on her is truly gorgeous. Then again, what doesn't look good on her. She can wear a potato sack and still look gorgeous!

Animal Instinct

Today is back to posting photos of myself in outfits. It was a nice break to blog about New York Fashion Week for the past few postings. Animal prints and fur/faux fur are making a comeback this season. Most of the items in this shoot were bought a while ago, except for the snakeskin bangle which I got at a sample sale. It really goes to show that if you buy something and keep it for a while, it'll come back in style! Anyhow, I love the fur vest and jacket too much to part with them.

New York City hosted the Manhattan Vintage Clothing Show this weekend. I went on Friday to check out the selection: I was in Vintage Heaven! There were anything and everything, vintage gold chains, vintage Chanel bags and accessories, cocktail dresses...you name it, they have it. There were also a lot of vintage fur coats, which are right on trend for this season. The selection was wide but a bit pricey. I bought a gorgeous black cocktail dress in the end. I think I still prefer my Shareen Vintage: great pieces and most under $100.

New York Fashion Week S/S 2010 - Chocheng and Trias

The last runway shows at New York Fashion Week S/S 2010 I saw were Chocheng and Trias. The Trias show took on a space age and structured aesthetic this season as shiny hi-tech fabric and futuristic shapes sashayed down the runway. The palette was neutral, with a tinge of blue. The bottoms were pod-like with some space (both in the spatial and planetary sense) at the back or front. I wonder what you can fit in there. They also look like they could turn into a sleeping bag, in case you need your beauty sleep while jetting off to some inter-galactic soirée. The stand out pieces in this collection are a stone grey hi-tech fabric dress with separate bustier pictured in the first photo and the blue ocean silk organza blouse with a draped back (I love my drapey clothes!), pictured here in the seventh photo with graphite black hi-tech fabric shorts.

For his spring/summer 2010 collection, Cho Cheng was inspired by a combination of Holly Golightly, Frederico Fellini and the Japanese obi. His pieces are structured yet feminine with romantic details. I was completely fascinated by the use of silk petals on the neckline, backside, side of his dresses and tops. They are both whimsical and visually intriguing. Other flattering details include the superbly tailored draping on gowns and suits. The finale piece was a white gown modeled by Coco Rocha, fit for a fairy tale wedding.

New York Fashion Week S/S 2010 - Milly and Maria Pinto

Day 7 of NYSW was spent at the Milly show and Maria Pinto presentation. Milly's Spring/Summer 2010 theme is "Punk Meets Prep". Side-swept pony tails and giant knotted bows in black sheer material were spotted on heads of models walking down the runway. The collection is dominated by short hemlines with an emphasis on shorts paired with luxuriously embellished and boxy jackets, and flirty mini dresses. Black is also a major color on the runway. Michelle Smith, the designer behind Milly, also presented her collection alongside the debut of her jewelry collection, which features chunky and versatile layered necklaces.

Maria Pinto's installation was hosted at Banchet Flowers in the Meatpacking District. The collection was inspired by the raw sensuality and tension in the Argentine tango. Spiral chiffons, whisper soft leathers, stretch wools and shirred jersey were all featured in her dramatic and fantastical collection. Especially mesmerizing was the bright yellow shredded chiffon gown worn with the most exquisite hand jewelry.

New York Fashion Week S/S 2010 - Willow and Tibi

Day 6 of NYFW I saw the Willow and Tibi show, both of which are unique in their own ways. At the Willow show, the theme was "Eternal Phi", conjuring up a deep sea journey into the Great Barrier Reef. The silhouettes were decidedly relaxed but structured, speckled with a flowing and feminine vibe every now and then. Cream and white dominated the runway with the occasional blue and gold. Metallic embellishments and mother-of-pearl completes the scene, calling to mind the glories of the undersea paradise.

The Tibi show was one of the most colorful I've seen during Fashion Week. Bright colors were spotted on easy, breezy ensembles, as well as pretty and feminine silhouettes. Icy pastels, rosettes on skirts and shoulders, and flowing backsides evoke the awakening of spring and the imagery of a lush garden party.

New York Fashion Week S/S 2010 - Rosa Chà and Gottex

Looking at the swimsuits and resort wear from Rosa Chà and Gottex makes me want to jet off to some tropical island and lounge on a sandy beach, sipping an ice-cold drink (preferably one with a fushia mini umbrella on top of the drink). Known for its sizzling swimwear, Rosa Chà came up with a laid-back and feminine silhouette for this season. Brazilians are known for their bottom-baring swim wear and this collection is anything but. The more conservative approach is nonetheless refreshing and wearable. My favorites are the adorable jumpsuits as coverups and the macramé swimsuit. I have to say though, the macramé swimsuits are pretty to look at, but begs the question of seriously streaky tan lines!

Gottex has a wide-ranging of swim wear on offer. This collection recalls the glamourous beach life in St. Tropez or any French Riviera locales. Who do I see wearing the jewel encrusted black bikini with the sheer and flowing golden kaftan? Beyoncé of course!

New York Fashion Week S/S 2010 - Kai Milla

Courtesy of herstoknow.com 's President and Editor, Miko Laube, I attended the Kai Milla presentation as her plus one. The show was an elegant installation that did not disappoint. Most pieces accentuates the lean lines of the body with artfully placed draping, ruching and cutout details. Here're my favorites:

Cleverly placed cutouts on the waist make the dress at once elegant and sexy.

Pretty print dress in body skimming cut, paired with bright yellow clutch and grey platform pumps. Love the combo!

New York Fashion Week S/S 2010 - Tony Cohen

Fashion Week ended yesterday and I had the good fortune of going to a number of runway shows. I've gone to a total of 11 shows during the entire week! Quite a lot for a first timer. Here is my schedule: Day 1 - Rosa Chà, Day 5 - Kai Milla, Tony Cohen, Gottex, Day 6 - Willow, Tibi, Day 7 - Milly, Maria Pinto, and Day 8 - Trias, Chocheng, and the Argentine Designers Collection. All the shows were unique in their own special ways. My favorite show was probably the Tony Cohen show. The draping and mixing of tough and feminine is right up my alley. Although I was a bit confused about the last 3 pieces of the show, which did not fit in with the rest of the collection, aesthetically. Here're my favorite pieces from the collection:

These 4 pieces are drapey and flowy, pairing them with the platform sandals and strappy gladiator heels give them an edgy, romantic feel.

This dress feels at once rockerish, with the feathered details, and feminine with the white, and flirty with the short hemline.

New York Fashion Week - Day 1

My friend, April and I went to the Rosa Chà show yesterday at Bryant Park. It was my first runway show ever and even if it was standing room, it was fine with me. The photos are a bit blurry since I took them with an iPhone. The photos here don't do the designs justice. I suggest going to NY Magazine where you can get the full coverage. There were some really cute swimsuits with pretty macramé and some adorable beach wear ensembles. Enjoy!

Last week I went to see The September Issue, a documentary about the making of the 2007 September issue of Vogue. The film granted access to the inside world of Anna Wintour, legendary editor-in-chief of American Vogue, and racks after racks of oogle-worthy clothes and walls of delectable shoes and accessories. The Devil Wears Prada in real life was rather entertaining, well, not if you're on the receiving end of her icy coldness. The one who stole the show though, was Grace Coddington, creative director of Vogue. Ms. Coddington has the uncanny ability to conjure up an ethereal, dream-like yet modern set for a photo shoot. Pity that the shoot never saw the light of day, save for this documentary. Her affable personality also overshadows Ms. Wintour's aloofness. While Ms. Wintour made the comment of "someone needs to go to the gym", Ms. Coddington demanded that no one photoshop out the beer belly of the guy behind the camera of the documentary who was asked to be part of a photo shoot. All in all, The September Issue was well done and entertaining.

New York Fashion Week starts this Thursday. Even though I won't have insider access to all the fashion shows at Bryant Park, I will be attending a few soirées with my fashionable and talented friend, April Rose Gedney. This week is about motorcycle jackets. I had no intention of collecting them, but I seem to have one of every color under the sun. It started off a few years ago with the brown motorcycle jacket that looked so amazing on my friend, Sankie. I demanded where she got it and immediately went to buy one for myself. This week I started my PR internship with Holstee, a clothing company that has a nonprofit component. What is so great about Holstee is that they combine functional clothing (think tee with a holster position zipper pocket to stash your credit card, cash and breath mints) with doing good. 10% of revenue goes towards micro-finance lending through KIVA. My role is to help Holstee implement its PR strategy, meanwhile looking for a paid job. Otherwise, on my way home, I stopped by Shareen Vintage and scored this frothy pink frock for $40. It's something Barbie would wear. I look like a cupcake, but I kinda like it. I'm not sure what attracts me to this, but lately I've been attracted to sweetheart necklines and puffy bottoms. I've decided to just take photos of this one dress and changing the accessories to switch up the looks. Which is your favorite look? Feel free to comment!

A lot of things happening this week! First, my favorite reality show, Project Runway premiered on Lifetime. I'm glad that the show looks and feels the same even though it's no longer on Bravo. Same old team, including mentor, Tim Gunn (Make it Work!), and judges, Heidi Klum, Michael Kors and Nina Garcia. This week's choice of guest judge is a bit mind-numbing, Lindsey Lohan...not sure how her not-so-stylish leggings qualifies her as judge, but moving on...the premier was brilliant. The winning design of the first challenge is gorgeous. I'm looking forward to a whole new season. On top of that, it was also the premier of Models of the Runway, a reality show that follows the models that appear on Project Runway...catfight and gossip ensues. Finally, the Barneys Warehouse Sale began and it was a madhouse on Thursday. My shoe addiction has relasped...otherwise, pulling some crochet looks from my closet.

Last Thursday I finally made my way to Shareen Vintage. It's been open for a couple months but not very widely publicized. The owner, Shareen, originally opened a store in LA and now has a shop in Chelsea. It's on the 2nd floor of a walkup with no distinct storefront signs. The only thing that identifies the shop is that it has a red fluffy prom dress hanging out from the window, on the 2nd floor fire escape.

I was doubtful that I would find anything since I got there around 8:00 p.m. and the shop opens from 5:00 - 10:00 p.m. However, I found myself picking pieces after pieces of amazing vintage finds! I must've tried on at least ten pieces of clothing...and decided to indulge myself and got the following. I love every single piece below and they were all under $100 and in mint condition! I'm definitely going back for more. The only thing to remember is that there is no fitting room, but if you're used to braving the sample sales, like I am, then you'll be fine. I suggest wearing a strapless bra and presentable underwear.

This dress is so fabulous I have no other word to describe it. It is floral in the prettiest pastels, with a sweetheart neckline, ruching in the midriff to cover any lumps! I love a dress with a bubble hemline. The elastic midriff also ensures minimal restriction when it comes to a night out with a big meal and dancing! At $42, I can't ask for a better deal!

This lace tunic was what I have been looking for all these years! It's the perfect length and size, and a gorgeous drop-waist hemline. The buttons were missing on the back and there was a minor hole, but at $20, it's an unbeatable bargain. Shareen suggested I take the one button on the back, sew it to the top closure and leave the back open. I also patched the minor hole and there I have a perfect vinatge lace tunic!

This dress costs $52 but makes me feel like a million-dollar underwater princess. The seafoam green and wavy pleated layers of chiffon make me think of a green sea anemone. The tiers and lightness of the fabric create a flowy movement that is beyond ethereal....if only I knew how to do the foxtrot!

This pastel purple dress is the epitome of elegant Hollywood glam. I love everything about it: the neckline, the embellishment, the color, the plissé fabric. Most of all, it's the perfect length. It's so rare that I find an evening dress that is the perfect length and under $100. Love!

It's official! I'm addicted to Polyvore. I find myself creating outfits on the site and can't stop. It's really quite amazing how much fun one can have on it. Polyvore is the brainchild of three ex-Yahoo engineers, who created the site to allow users to create magazine sets by playing fashion editor and stylist. Users download images of items from online stores, such as Forever 21 and Net-A-Porter, and put together an outfit that they can publish and share with fellow Polyvorians. By clicking on the dress or necklace on the sets, you're taken to the websites which sell them. Genius! It's a great source for shopping and platform (no pun intended!) for sharing styling ideas. I'm definitely hooked.

Maxi dresses have taken up a portion of my wardrobe. I love that they allow room for expansion, especially in the midsection after a full meal. They require minimum thought on styling...wear some bangles and a pair of sandals et voilà. They also make me feel flowy, carefree and ethereal on a hot summer day. All in all I have nothing bad to say about maxi dresses. My first blog post "Spring is here!" also featured some of my favorite maxis. The mint green Rebecca Taylor dress below was what I wore to my City Hall wedding ceremony, exactly 3 years ago. My husband and I are enjoying the journey so far, and sometimes like to take the long way home.

I finally went to the Metropolitan Museum of Art to look at the "Model as Muse" exhibit. The exhibit was organized chronologically to showcase the fashion and the models that represented the different eras. Muse is defined as "a source of inspiration" and true to their forms, the models featured, embodied the style and culture of their time. It was also a treat to see some of the past signature designer pieces. I was not entirely successful at documenting the exhibition, but managed to sneak in a few shots even though taking photos was verboten. I seriously thought the burly guard was going to kick me out! Alas...enjoy the forbidden fruit, sit back and relax since I did the work so you wont' have to.

Also inspired by this exhibition, I will attempt to gather pieces from my wardrobe that resemble those shown at the exhibition.

The fireworks on July 4 were amazing. We had the best seat in the house. I wish the fireworks were on the Hudson every year! The fireworks have somewhat inspired this week's blog. There're no dearth of rompers and jumpsuits these days in the stores but it's hard to find one that is right for your body type. I was happy to find one that was to my exact liking...like this Shipley and Halmos one from Uniqlo. I was in the store on a late Saturday and of course all the small sizes were gone. The only ones left were extra small, medium and large. Determined to try my luck again the next day, I was delighted to see they still had a small and quickly bought it. The weather is still not warm enough to wear a romper in the city, so my beloved black romper is only debuting on this blog for now.

The other romper was a purchase made last year which I have worn out once. At the time I was deciding between the dress version and this romper. Glad I bought the romper since I didn't have any in my wardrobe...and now it's making a major comeback.

Another ubiquitous trend/detailing is the exposed zipper. I bought the short dress with the gold zipper ages ago. I guess certain trends come back again and again. That's why I haven't been very good a throwing old stuff out when I buy new ones. Maybe it's time to invest in storage!

This blog post pays tribute to my love of lace. The selected outfits are only a small selection of clothing with lace in my closet. It's safe to say that lace just about makes up one of the most common theme in what I wear. Some lace can look cheap so I try to select carefully when purchasing any lace-related items to keep the feminine detail looking elegant, romantic, classic, and above all, chic!

Once again, these photos shot in sepia were photographed by my talented friend, Angela. She captured just the right mood, a balance of romantic and nostalgic in the mid-afternoon sun. My French Bulldog, Bono, also makes an appearance. Thanks Angie and Bono, for a lovely lacey afernoon!

Green Revolution

Today's blog is all about green. I wish I could say that it is about eco-clothing but it's really more about the color green. With the help of my contributing photographer, the talented Ms. Angela Filingeri, we were able to take the many shots you see here. We spent the entire day figuring the outifts, shots and locations around my apartment building and turned out some very creative images. I never thought the green clothing on green background could look so great! Thanks for an amazing time Angie!
